How to Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok

TikTok's profile view history works both ways: if you can see who looked at your profile, they can see when you looked at theirs. Turning it off closes both doors at once, and that trade is the whole decision.

Here is where the setting lives, what you lose by switching it off, and why it sometimes disappears.

1. Open your profile and tap the menu (three lines, top right).

What actually changes

This is the part people get wrong, so it is worth stating plainly.

Profile view history is reciprocal. While it is on, you can see the accounts that visited your profile in the last 30 days — and they can see when you visited theirs. Switching it off does both things at once:

• You stop appearing in other people's profile view lists.
• You stop being able to see who viewed yours.

You cannot have one without the other. There is no setting that lets you browse invisibly while still collecting your own visitor list, and any app claiming otherwise is not doing what it says.

Does it delete the history?

Turning the feature off clears your visible list. If you switch it back on later it starts fresh — the 30-day window begins from that moment rather than restoring what was there before.

So if there is something in your list worth noting, note it before you toggle.

Why the option is sometimes missing

Three common reasons the setting is not where the steps above say it should be:

• Your account is over the size threshold. Profile view history is only offered to accounts under a certain follower count. Large accounts do not get it, because a list of every visitor stops being useful at scale.
• Your app is out of date. The setting has moved location more than once. Update before hunting.
• You are under 16. Some privacy features are configured differently on younger accounts.

Turning it back on

Same path, toggle back. The reciprocal rule applies again from that moment: you become visible to others, and start collecting your own list.

One practical note — if you turned it off specifically to look at someone's profile without them knowing, turning it back on later does not retroactively reveal that visit. It happened while you were invisible and stays invisible.

Profile views are not video views

Worth separating, because the two get conflated constantly.

Profile views count people who opened your profile page. That number is a measure of curiosity — usually people who saw a video and wanted to know who made it.

Video views count plays on individual posts. That is a measure of reach, decided by the For You feed rather than by anyone deliberately seeking you out.

The reason it matters: a profile with high profile views and few follows has a conversion problem, not a reach problem. People are arriving and leaving. That is fixed with a better bio and a grid that looks like a series — not with more posting.

The reverse case, plenty of video views and few profile views, means the content lands but gives nobody a reason to look you up. That is a hook problem.
