What a fake Instagram post generator is for

Most people who reach a tool like this are not trying to deceive anyone. They are designing something: laying out a carousel before shooting it, checking whether a caption reads well at the width it will actually appear, putting a realistic-looking example into a pitch deck, or mocking up a screenshot for a tutorial. A post mockup is the fastest way to see a piece of content in the frame it will live in, and the only way to do it before the content exists.

That is the job this does. You supply a photo, a handle, a caption, a like count and a timestamp; it draws them in a post layout and hands you a PNG. There is no Instagram account involved, nothing is published, and the output is an image file that lives on your device.

What this will not do, and why

You can type any username into the field, because a mockup maker that locked the handle to your own would be useless for a client pitch or a tutorial. But it is worth being direct about the line: presenting one of these as a genuine post by a real person is impersonation. Depending on what the caption says, it can also be defamation, and if money changes hands on the strength of it, fraud.

It is also why the badge is drawn as a plain blue tick rather than a copy of Instagram’s own artwork, and why the action icons are simple shapes rather than reproductions of theirs. It reads clearly as a mockup, which is exactly what it is.

Everything happens in your browser

Both images — the post photo and the profile picture — are read by your own browser and drawn onto a canvas on your device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no account. Close the tab and it is gone.

This matters more than it sounds for this particular tool. People mocking up a post are handing over a photo of themselves, their work or an unreleased campaign. Any version of this that posts your file to a server has taken custody of that, and most of the free ones do. Ours cannot, because there is no server in the path.

Sizes, cropping and what you get

The export is 1080 pixels wide, which is Instagram’s own post width, with a square photo frame. Height varies with your caption, because the caption wraps to the full width rather than being truncated — the point of previewing a caption is to see where it breaks.

Your photo is scaled to fill the square and cropped evenly from the centre, never stretched. If the crop loses something important, crop the image the way you want first. Using a mockup to plan real posts

The most useful thing about seeing a draft in the frame is how quickly it exposes problems. Captions that read fine in a notes app turn out to break in an awkward place. A photo that looked balanced turns out to lose its subject to the square crop. A hook that seemed strong turns out to sit below the fold, where nobody scrolling will read it.
