What Font Does TikTok Use?

The short answer is TikTok Sans — the app's own typeface. Here is what that means for captions, bios and edits.

The short answer

TikTok uses TikTok Sans, a typeface commissioned for the brand and used across the app interface, captions and marketing. It is not a font you can select, install or swap — it is simply what the app renders in.

Older articles name a different font, and they are not wrong so much as out of date: before commissioning its own, TikTok used a commercial geometric sans of the kind that was ubiquitous in app design at the time. If you found a source naming something else, check its date.

You cannot change it, and that is the whole confusion

There is no font setting in TikTok. Not on iOS, not on Android, not in any menu. Every result promising to change “the TikTok font” is talking about something else — the characters you type, not the typeface they are drawn in.

That distinction explains everything people find contradictory here. Someone’s bio genuinely does look like cursive, and the app genuinely has no cursive option. Both are true, because they are not using a font at all.

What they are actually doing

They are substituting characters. Unicode contains alphabets that look styled — Mathematical Bold, Small Capitals, Script — built for maths and phonetics rather than decoration. Swapping ordinary letters for those characters produces text that looks like a different font while remaining plain text.

Because it is plain text, it survives being pasted into a bio, a display name, a caption or a comment. That is the entire trick, and our TikTok font generator does it in one step. It works on your display name and bio; it does not work on your @username, which TikTok restricts to letters, numbers, periods and underscores.

Captions, subtitles and the in-app text tool

Captions and TikTok’s auto-generated subtitles render in the same app typeface. The text tool in the editor offers a small set of preset styles — different weights, outlines and backgrounds — but those are TikTok’s own presets, not fonts you can add to.

If you have seen a TikTok with text that clearly is not any of those presets, it was made somewhere else. CapCut and other editors burn text into the video before upload, so the font came from that app, not from TikTok.

Can you download it?

TikTok Sans is proprietary — commissioned for the brand rather than licensed for general use — so there is no legitimate free download for putting it in your own designs. The wordmark in the logo is custom lettering rather than a typeface at all.

If you are making thumbnails or edits and want the app’s look, the practical answer is a geometric sans with a generous x-height and tight spacing. That gets you recognisably close without redistributing something you do not have a licence for.

If you came here to style your own text

The TikTok font generator gives you 18 copy-ready styles. Bio symbols add dividers and arrows for structure, and the character counter will tell you whether it still fits — TikTok’s bio limit is 80 characters, which is tighter than most people expect.
