Why the app makes this awkward
Instagram deliberately does not let you tap a profile picture to enlarge it. On a phone you get a small circle and no way to see it properly — which is the entire reason this category of tool exists.
What this does is fetch the full-size version the platform already publishes and show it as a normal image you can look at or save. Nothing clever, and nothing hidden.
Public accounts only — and that is not a limitation we chose
If an account is private, its profile picture is not published, and there is nothing for any tool to retrieve. We say so when it happens rather than showing a grey placeholder and letting you assume the tool failed.
This matters because the sites promising private-account access are the ones that ask you to log in first. There is no legitimate reason a profile-picture viewer needs your password, and handing it over is how accounts actually get taken.
On resolution
Both platforms cap what they publish, so “full size” is still fairly modest — typically a few hundred pixels square. No tool can recover detail the platform never served in the first place, and anything claiming to upscale it is generating pixels rather than revealing them.
